Simon Stocker
Born in
Nottingham, UK in 1950. BSc in statistics and economics from the University of
Wales.
Worked as Regional Organiser for Wales for the Student Christian
Movement from 1971 to 1973 and then spent a year with the British Steel
Corporation as a computer programmer.
Joined War on Want in 1976 initially as a
Regional Organiser.
Became Programme Officer responsible for Southern Africa in
1979, and then Deputy General Secretary in 1984.
From 1986 was the UK
representative to the NGO-EC Liaison Committee. Became Director of the
International Coalition For Development Action in 1988, based in Brussels.
From
1990 has been the Director of
Eurostep, a network of European development
NGDOs focusing on the policies of the EU that affect developing countries.
Since 2001 Eurostep has focused on the EU’s legal base for development
cooperation and on the implementation of EU development cooperation. It works
closely with civil society from countries in parts of the world. Board member of LDC Watch. |
